Western Greece: Tender for the completion of Aktio-Amvrakia Motorway to be launched soon

In the coming days, the tender for the so-called “sweep” contract will be completed, that will complete the construction works for Amvrakia Motorway. According to Ypodomes.com secure information, the contract, worth approximately 150mln euros, will last about 3 years while a priority will be given to the so-called 4th contract (Amfilochia’s southwestern bypass), which is the most advanced section of the road.

With the activation of the “sweep” contract, the delivery of the motorway will be now divided into two parts. The first, concerning the first section, which is now the only active will eventually deliver about 15 km in operation (something like a detour for the town of Vonitsa). This is expected to be completed by 2019. AKTOR S.A. will replace the previous contractor.

The “sweep” contract will include the remainder, leaving the first contract (the first 1.5-2 km to Aktio and to the East up to the 22nd km) and the rest 48.5 km in the southern part of Amvrakia Lake as well as the connection to Ionian Motorway.

The full operation of the motorway, provided that works begin during this year, is estimated for the end of 2021. The road has features of a covered motorway with 2 lanes (+shoulder) per direction. It will cut, by at least 40 minutes, the currently deadly road connection from Amfilochia to Aktio, a route with a particularly high death toll.

The new road will reduce significantly time distance and mileage between Aktio and the entire West Coast of Etoloakarnania and Epirus regions.
