There will be a slight delay in the delivery and opening of the final section of the Ambracia Highway, according to information. Although the delivery ceremony was originally scheduled to take place by the end of the year, it now appears that it will be in early 2024. According to the same information on ypodomes.com, the reason for the delay is the discovery of ancient artifacts in the area of Drymos.
It is, after all, the last pending issue in the section currently under construction from Drymos to Vonitsa. In the same context, a decision by the traffic police has been made. With a decision by the Deputy Police Director of Aetoloakarnania, Konstantinos Spyropoulos, regarding “Temporary Traffic Regulations, Phase A and Phase B, for the construction works of the integration of the Aktio-Ambracia highway, from kp 27+000 to kp 27+850 (Drymos area), with the completed sections of the project on both sides: ‘Remaining works for the construction of the road connection of the Aktio area with the North-South Western Axis,'” the following are foreseen:
1. The restriction of the width of the road pavement and the speed limits for vehicles in both (2) traffic lanes, in the section of the Aktio-Ambracia highway, for the completion of the integration works of the highway in the area of Drymos from kp 27+000 to kp 27+850, requires the implementation of the following traffic regulations according to the above (4) relevant studies:
Phase A: For the execution of the above-mentioned works on the left branch of the highway (direction towards Vonitsa) from kp 27+000 to kp 27+850, it is necessary to restrict the width of the traffic lane for vehicles moving on the existing road. In this construction phase, vehicle traffic on the existing road should be shifted as far right as possible, and the traffic width will be limited to 7.00 meters for the two traffic lanes.
The traffic regulations of Phase A are connected to the east with the traffic regulations of DSR22 (diverting the traffic of all vehicles from kp 25+400 to kp 26+200 of the existing National Road Amfilochia-Lefkada (kp 27+800 to kp 28+600 of the new highway, respectively) and conducting it through the right parallel road DSR 22), which extend until the completion and delivery of the project. To the west, it connects with existing traffic regulations of the section from kp 24+500 to kp 27+100.
Phase B: Upon the completion of the integration works of the left branch of the artery, for the section from kp 27+000 to kp 28+000, vehicles will travel on the left branch of the artery to complete the construction works of the right branch of the highway.
The traffic regulations of Phase B are connected to the east with the aforementioned traffic regulations of DSR22, and to the west with existing traffic regulations of the section from kp 24+500 to kp 27+100.
2. The above traffic regulations will be in effect daily, around the clock, from Saturday, November 25, 2023, to Thursday, January 25, 2024.
During the aforementioned time frame, with the exclusive responsibility of the contracting company “METKA S.A.,” in accordance with the provisions outlined in the above (4)
a. Take all necessary measures to ensure the unobstructed and safe flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Install the signage prescribed by Article 9 of the Traffic Code, which will be in effect 24 hours a day.
b. Permanent existing signage that conflicts with the proposed signage must either be removed or covered.
c. Before implementing the above temporary traffic regulations, the relevant municipality and the appropriate Police Department will be informed in a timely manner.
Offenders of this decision are prosecuted and punished in accordance with the provisions of Law 2696/99 (A-57) “On the penalties of the Traffic Code,” as amended, supplemented, and currently in force. The implementation of measures prescribed by this article is assigned to the Traffic Police Department of Aktio – Vonitsa.
It should be noted that the construction works are carried out by the company METKA, a member of the Mytilineos Group, while the contracting authority for the project is the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
