Tenders for the large PPP projects regarding building facilities intended for student dormitories and other uses for the Universities of Thrace and Thessaly, have been postponed.

More specifically, the Expression of Interest for the tender of Democritus University of Thrace has been moved from June 23 to July 7 and -respectively- for the University of Thessaly, from June 18 to July 17, 2020.

These two PPP projects, along with those of the University of Crete, where the tendering process is already underway, exceed the budget of 450m euros and aspire to upgrade the quality of the university experience for their students, providing new modern building facilities that will be maintained at a high level for over two decades.

The construction project of student dormitories in Democritus University is a project worth 105.5m euros and includes the construction and management for the next 30 years of the student dorms, residences, catering facilities, the central library and a research centers in Alexandroupoli, Komotini and Xanthi.

The PPP project for the Univesity of Thessaly includes projects in Volos and Lamia. The project has a cost of 116m euros and includes an extended urban regeneration and utilization of the industrial properties where former cotton factories used to operate in Nea Ionia, Volos. There, student dormitories, educational and research facilities and social infrastructure of the University, will be constructed.

In Lamia we will, again, see projects for the construction of student dormitories and educational-research infrastructure. As in the case of the PPP of Democritus University, the management of the new infrastructure will be included in the project for a period of 30 years.

The third project for which the tender is in progress concerns the construction of student dormitories for the University of Crete. This PPP project has a cost of 255m euros and it the construction of 2,000 student residences in Rethymnon and another 1,000 residences in Heraklion are planned in the respective campuses.

Large construction groups such as GEK TERNA, AKTOR CONCESSION, AVAX, INTRAKAT, ARCHIRODON, THEMELI and J/V MYTILINEOS-ATESE have already expressed their interest.
