The first phase of the tender for the upgrade of the Eastern Regional of Thessaloniki (Flyover) has started in a space less than three months after the presentation of the plan for this very important project.

Specifically, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Costas Karamanlis, has signed today the approval of the documents for the invitation of the first phase of the pre-selection of the participants in the competition. The invitation was published in Diavgeia and the process is expected to be completed in 4-6 months.

“Flyover, this highway – a jewel, the like of which will not exist anywhere else in Greece, is one of the three axes of our plan for the co-capital, along with Thessaloniki Metro and tackling the OASTH problem,” said Mr. Karamanlis in his statements.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport underlined that this is a road of high standards that will have significant benefits for the city of Thessaloniki and for the wider region. Finally he referred in the congestion of the Ring Road, faster and mainly safe transportation, absolute respect for the environment, easier access from one end of the city to the other but also to and from neighboring cities and critical destinations.

“Today the mortality rate on the Eastern Ring Road of Thessaloniki is 12 times higher than that of Attiki Odos in Athens and the injury rate is almost 14 times higher. The new highway will not only improve daily life in Thessaloniki, but will also save lives “, stressed Mr. Karamanlis and added:” I have said many times that all governments owe to Thessaloniki. And the time has come to pay off this debt.”
