4 important infrastructure projects under way in December

December enters the world of infrastructure with a full agenda. Just before the end of one of the most special years in decades, some important dates will lead us to the end of the year.

On December 8, the long-awaited competition for the impressive flyover of the Peripheral of Thessaloniki begins, a project that will have a great impact on the daily life of the people of Thessaloniki. This new 13km axis will be almost entirely based on a bridge and is the largest road project – PPP in the country. In the first phase it is estimated that there will be a large participation.

Three days later, on December 11, the binding offers for the Egnatia Odos will be submitted. Here, as the critical date approaches, erupts the battle between the interested parties. HRDH maintains that there will be no extension other than the “gossip” of at least two candidates who allegedly insist on it. The concession of the Egnatia Odos and 3 verticals with a total length of 1,000 km is the largest corresponding project in Europe, making the competition a “battleground” for the 7 participants.

The CoC decides the fate of the Thessaloniki Metro

Around the middle of the month, we are waiting for the decision of the CoC to be announced for the much-praised case concerning the Venizelos station in the Thessaloniki Metro. The decision of the Council is crucial as it will largely judge the outcome of the work for the whole project. A negative response to the appeals releases it, and makes it possible to predict its completion and, above all, its operation, which is currently located in 2023. If the appeal is accepted, the project risks falling into a vortex with unknown results.

CoC decisions are also expected for the Egnatia Odos projects that have been blocked and relate to the double contract of road maintenance and the connection of the port.

It seems that the completion of the nationally important energy project that will connect Crete electrically for the first time with the Continental system, is a matter of days. The connection of Chania-Neapolis by IPTO marks a new page in the electrical interconnections and the next final step for the “green transition” of the big island will be the connection of Attica-Crete.

On the other hand, the competition for the nomination of a contractor for the “ghost” project that will complete pier 6, in the Port of Thessaloniki, seems to have few chances. According to information, although the bidding phase was set for December, everything indicates that it will move slightly, at the beginning of next year.
