The extension of Line 2 will be included in NSRF 2021-2027

The extension of line 2 of the Athens Metro to Ilion will be sought through the NSRF 2021-2027 . According to a reply document of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport to a question of the KINAL MP, Giannis Loverdos, this project has a good level of maturity in terms of studies.

More specifically, Attiko Metro has completed the topographic works and the geotechnical / geophysical surveys of the area, as well as the preliminary design study of the project and placement of the structures (stations and wells).

It is aimed that the expansion of the project will be ready for auction in the next programming period, ie in the NSRF 2021-2027, with the condition that it will be included in an operational program and the funding be approved.

All that remains for the project to be put into the completion procedure is to draft the specifications and the tender documents in order to move on to the tender of the rest of the technical studies of the extension.

A major extension for Line 2

The extension of Line 2 to Ilion is estimated to cover densely populated areas of the capital in the areas of Petroupoli, Ilion and the Municipality of Agioi Anargyroi-Kamatero. It has a length of 4km and an initial estimated cost of 400m euros while it will include 3 underground stations. These are the stations: PALATIANI, ILION and AGIOS NIKOLAOS.

Further expansion of Line 2 to Zefyri via Kamatero at the height of Attiki Odos is planned, in connection with the Suburban Railway station “ANO LIOSIA”.

The extension of Line 4 to Petroupoli

In relation to the wider area of the north-western suburbs in the design of the Attiko Metro and the ministry Infrastructure and Transport, there is the extension of Line 4 to Petroupoli, where it is scheduled to end.

Of course, this extension is in the “queue” for implementation since Line 4 of the Athenian Metro consists of many different sections.
Attiko Metro SA has already started the preliminary maturation works for this section and will soon sign a contract for the topographic works, as the relevant tender for this object is completed.
