4 candidates for the major railway electrification and signaling project in Central Greece

Four suitors will claim tomorrow the first major railway project of the current decade. According to information from ypodomes.com, the schemes that declared interest for the electrification and signaling project on the Larissa-Volos railway line are: GEK TERNA, MYTILINEOS, AVAX-ALSTOM and INTRAKAT.

The auction was held by ERGOSE on Monday, February 1st and the bids will be unsealed tomorrow at noon to initially reveal the bidder of the project. AVAX continues the successful cooperation with Alstom as they have taken together the big Metro projects for the expansion to Piraeus and the new line 4. The absence of Aktor, which has been going down in all the big railway tenders for several years, makes sense.

A project that transforms the line

The ETCS upgrade project, signaling and electrification will transform the railway line that connects the two major cities of Thessaly. According to the specifications, a trolley type electric drive will be installed, for speeds up to 100 km / h. The journey along with the required stops is estimated to take about 40 minutes. Also, the road is opened for the suburban connection between Volos-Thessaloniki which can be carried out in about 100 minutes.

The projects include the construction of a new single railway line of normal width, by the SS. Quarry to S.S. Volos 10.5km long to replace the old metric. A new stop for passenger use will also be constructed in the area of ​​the Industrial Area.

The contracting authority of the project is ERGOSE which will be auctioned on January 18, 2021 while on the 22nd of the same month the bids will be unsealed. The cost of the project was estimated at an amount with VAT of 82.89 million euros (66.84 million euros without VAT).

The duration of the contract is set at 72 months from the date of signing the contract. The construction period is about 3 years. The goal is to be completed and put into operation by 2024. The project is funded by the NSRF 2014-2020 through the OP. “Transport Infrastructure, Environment and Sustainable Development 2014 – 2020”.
