The 10+1 big infrastructure projects of 1.6 bln euros coming up in the next 6 months

Ten new major projects are being prepared for tender next semester by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the Public Utilities Companies it supervises. This is a new package of projects worth almost 1.6 billion euros which is added to the already swollen portfolio of large projects.

Among the projects stand out the extension of Metro line 2 in Ilion, the anti flood project of Nea Makri and the northern end of the Ionia Odos, Ioannina-Kakavia. The projects are estimated to begin to be tendered gradually from October until the beginning of Spring 2023. But what exactly are these projects and what are their features? Let’s see:

Anti-flood project of Nea Makri

It is about the arrangement of the Mega Stream in Nea Makri in a length of 17.5 kilometers. The cost of the project is estimated at 67 million euros and the tender is expected in the first quarter of 2023. It is financed by the EIB (from the well-known program for flood protection projects in 2020) and the NSRF 2014-2020. The construction duration is estimated at 30 months.

Plati Potamos Dam

It is a dam that will strengthen the water supply network in Rethymnon. It also includes the construction of a 25km distribution network up to Messara and irrigation networks in Rethymnon that will cover 45,000 acres. The cost is estimated at 130 million euros and the tender is expected at the end of 2022-beginning of 2023. The duration of the constructions has been estimated at 36 months and the financing is being considered.

Ionia Odos: Ioannina-Kakavia section

This is the northern terminus of the highway that today starts from Antirrio and ends in Ioannina. With its construction, access to and from Albania will be improved, while it is also part of the Adriatiki Odos. The cost of the project is estimated at 290 million euros and the tender is expected at the end of 2022-beginning of 2023. The duration of the projects was set at 48 months and the funding will come from the NSRF 2021-2027.

Extension of line 2 of the Athens Metro to Ilion

This is the northern extension of line 2 from the ANTHOUPOLI terminal in Ilion. It includes 4km and 3 new stations: PALATIANI, ILION, AGIOS NIKOLAOS. The cost of the project is estimated at 350 million euros and expressions of interest are expected towards the end of 2022. The duration of the projects was set at 48 months and the funding will come from the NSRF 2021-2027. Here the contracting authority is ATTIKO METRO.

Water supply of Corfu – Phase B and C

It is a 30-year PPP project. It includes the construction and operation of a water supply system of 15,000 cubic meters of water per day. The cost is estimated at 146 million euros. Approval is awaited from the Inter-Ministerial Committee to start the tender ideally by the end of the year. Of the 30 years, the construction will be four years.

West Attica Suburban

A very important transport project. It concerns the reuse of the inactive train line with a length of 36 km. It will serve the urban areas of Aspropyrgo, Elefsina, Loutropyrgo, as well as the areas of Neraki, Nea Peramos and Megara. It will also help in the freight transport service for Elpe. facilities in Aspropyrgos and Elefsina Stations: Aspropyrgos Elpe., Aspropyrgos, Vamvakia, Elefsina, Elefsina Elpe., Loutropyrgos, Nea Peramos. It includes electric propulsion and signaling. The cost reaches 107 million euros and the auction is expected in October. The duration of the projects was set at 33 months and the financing will be covered by the Recovery Fund. The contracting authority for this project is the OSE.

Tsiknia Dam, Lesvos

Another dam which will have a volume of 12.5 million cubic meters. With its construction and operation, many areas of Lesvos will “quench” their thirst, such as Mytilini, Kalloni, Evergetoula, etc. The cost amounts to 104 million euros and the tender is expected by the end of the year. Construction is set to take 36 months and financing will be covered by the Recovery Fund.

Arta-Preveza-Lefkada water supply network

This project solves the problem with the existing old network. The network will be 87 km long to Lefkada and includes, among other things, the construction of 3 tanks with a total capacity of 5,800 cubic meters. The cost amounts to 140 million euros and the tender is expected by the end of the year. The duration of the constructions was set at 35 months and the financing will be covered by the Recovery Fund.

Anti-flood shielding of Amvrakia-Amfilochia-Valtos

Here we find a project for flood protection in the 3 regions of Etoloakarnania. It includes projects on 35,000 acres, Construction of irrigation and drainage networks with a pipeline and ditch every 200m in an area of ​​700 acres, upgrading of the ditch upstream of the New National Road Construction of individual ditches, 13 individual irrigation networks 12,800 sq.m. gross area and 11,500 square meters of net surface area and construction of 4 resettling tanks and 2 pumping stations. The cost amounts to 64.5 million euros and the tender is expected until the end of 2022. The duration of the constructions is 36 months and the financing will be covered by the Recovery Fund.

Bramiano anti flood shield

It includes completion works of the Bramiano reservoir, the anti-flood works of Gra Lygia and the Myrtos Dam in Lasithi, Crete. The cost amounts to 53.5 million euros and the tender is expected by the end of the year. The duration of the projects was set at 36 months and the financing will be covered by the Recovery Fund.

+1 project: Smart bridges

A smart project that includes the provision of smart preventive maintenance services to the OSE SA and ERGOSE SA railway bridges throughout the country. The cost reaches 130 million euros and its auction is expected in October. The duration of the projects was set at 36 months and the financing will be covered by the Recovery Fund.
