The launch of the constuction phase in E65 Motorway’s Southern section, from Lamia to Ksyniada, officially starting today, with the presence of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Christos Spirtzis, marks the initiation of the country’s new generation major infrastructure projects.
For GEK-TERNA, this day also denotes the strengthening of its hegemonic presence in the domestic constructions sector. Today, the Group’s backlog reaches 1.2bn euros, with the dominant project being PPC’s new lignite-fired power plant in Ptolemaida.
Apart from E65 (at a cost of 300mn euros), just a few days ago, the construction of “Nicola Tesla” Airport in Belgrade was announced jointly with VINCI (the company’s participation is around 130mn euros). The backlog for these 2 projects only, exceeds 1.65bn euros, while the ratification of the contract for the construction of the the New International Airport in Kastelli, Crete, by the Greek Parliament is expected soon.
Taking into account Crete’s airport project along with the preliminary works for Athens Metro Line 4 (TERNA has been declared as the difinite underbidder), the Group’s backlog will soar as high as 2.2bn euros, recording the highest performance in the last 2 years.
Among the recent projects that stand out are the PPP project for the construction of 3 new Waste Treatment Plants in Peloponnese (that has just started) and the PPP project for Epirus’ Waste Treatment Plant that is almost completed and about to be fully operational.
It is noteworthy that GEK-TERNA is currently pursuing a number of large-scale projects as it participates in tenders for Athens Metro 4 Line 4, Crete’s Northern Motorway Axis (aka VOAK), Salamina-Perama submerged road tunnel, Thessaloniki Freight Center etc.
