TERNA ENERGY signs a PPP Agreement for the Solid Waste Treatment Plant of Epirus Region

The agreement for the project “Municipal Solid Waste Treatment Plant of Epirus Region” which is based on Public & Private Partnerships (PPP) scheme between “Aeiforiki of Epirus”, subsidiary of TERNA ENERGY Group, and the Region of Epirus was signed today.

The partnership agreement provides for the study, licensing, financing, construction, insurance, operation and maintenance of the Waste Management project for the next 25 years. The total duration of the agreement is 26.5 years and consists of an 18-month construction period as well as of a 25-year operation period.

The investment is estimated to reach the amount of 52.6 million Euros.The fundamental axis of the investment plan concerns the management of Conventional Wastes through the use of modern technologies aiming at an absolute environmental protection and according to a financially viable strategy so that the long-term implementation and operation of the project is fully ensured.

The project will be processing 105 thousand tons of wastes on annual basis through the Sewage Treatment Plan (STP), will be recycling at least 17,000 tons of appropriate materials and will be producing green energy with the capacity to satisfy the needs of 3,000 families and generate savings of 12,000 tons of CO2.

The project’s plan provides for the creation of 200 new jobs during the construction period, 90 working positions during the 25-year operation of the project, and of a large number of parallel jobs (such as in the areas of transportation, trade, management of recycling materials, etc.).

The operation of the new waste material processing unit ensures the compliance of the broader region with existing and European legislations, strengthens the environmental protection and leads to significant improvements in quality of life and hygiene conditions of all citizens.

The implementation of the project implies indirect or direct benefits for Tourism, Education and the new quality-based Agricultural Sector which constitutes a strategic objective for the entire country of Greece.
