Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Christos Spirtzis, estimated the start of the tendering procedures for Attiki Motorway’s extensions, in the first half of 2019. During an interview he gave on Alpha TV yesterday, he commented that the competition will take place in the early months of 2019 while the concessionaire is currently proceeding with the studies in order to “mature” the rest of the projects and allow the tender to be launched in the coming months.
The projects of the extensions are:
a) Road and railway extension to the Port of Lavrio
b) Road and railway extension to the Port of Rafina
c) Extension of Kymis Avenue up to Athens-Thessaloniki motorway axis
d) Katehaki-Vouliagmenis urban road tunnel
The first priority, as Mr Spirtzis said, will be the extension of the Motorway to the port of Lavrio. The cost of the above extensions is estimated to reach 1.5bn euros while for the first time the project scope will be “mixed”, following the practice of many foreign countries, combining the extension of the motorway and the extension of the Attica’s suburban railway network in order to cover the other 2 main ports of the Region.
It should be noted that the extensions of Attiki Motorway, which has been in operation since 2001 (2004 in its final extent), have been the subject of many announcements by several Ministers, however nothing tangible has been done so far.
