2018 will definitely be an important year for the infrastructure sector of Greece. Ageing projects are finally completed, one after the other, setting as a priority the next day.

A series of new generation projects that will complete existing infrastructure, are expected to start until 2019-2020. Today we will unveil 10 important projects that we are going to see being implemented in the following years. It is noteworthy that, for the first time, 3 out of 10 projects concern railway infrastructure. In the following list, 2 projects have been contracted while some others are already in auction.

Besides those projects, we expect more investments in the ports of Piraeus and Thessalonica (200mio and 180mio euros respectively), in Thriassion Plain (180mio euros) additional projects for the expansion of the natural gas distribution network (300mio euros), etc. Let’s see the countdown:

10. Electrification of railway lines in the region of Thessaly (105mio euros)

9. Faleron Bay restoration (220mio euros)

8. Upgrade works for 14 regional airports managed by Fraport (340mio euros)

7. Railway infrastructure upgrade works on Athens-Promachonas corridor (370mio euros)

6. Railway infrastructure works for Kiato-Patra section in Northern Peloponnese (450mio euros)

5. Patra-Pyrgos Motorway project / Natural extension of Olympia Motorway (450mio euros)

4. E65 Central Motorway’s completion and connection with the country’s existing motorway network in the South and the North (700mio euros)

3. Crete’s new international airport in Kasteli, Heraklion (700mio euros)

2. Crete’s Northern Motorway Axis, aka VOAK, connecting Chania and Aghios Nikolaos (1.5bn euros)

1. Athens Metro Line 4 (1.8bn euros)
