A very positive development was announced recently, regarding the railway network of Peloponnese. According to information provided at Ypodomes.com, a decision was made for the conduct of sustainability studies for the re-operation of the line connecting Corinth, Argos and Nafplio.

The decision was reached after a meeting between the Ministry’s, General Secretary for Transportation, Mr. Thanos Vourdas with local MPs and bodies. The big challenge here is the successful re-operation of the metric line, closed in 2010, and the passengers’ transportation to Athens or Patras with just one transit. It is reminded that the line is already renovated with 80mn euros. Based on data from OSE, the line could become functional with an additional expenditure of just 3mn euros.

Nevertheless, the new variant, which is TRAINOSE’s successor company, Trenitalia, will finally approve (or not) these plans based on the commercial potential of the line also allocating the use of specific trains among certain routes.
