Crete’s Development Organization (aka OAK) proceeded to the implementation of studies regarding the upgrade of Northern Crete’s Motorway Axis (aka VOAK), from Chania to Aghios Nikolaos.

As OAK announced on Friday, after completing the draft of an initial technical study for the upgrade of VOAK in the section from Chania to Heraklion, 160 km long, it decided to extend the initial study, in order to include Aghios Nikolaos as well, adding another 45 km to the new motorway.

According to the announcement, “the framework of the study will be based on the conclusions of the initial traffic study, conducted in 1998 as well as the recent study, imlpemented in 2017. The decision of the Organization is in acccordance with the Regional Authority and other bodies of Crete and therefore was accepted for consideration by the Government”. The study is funded by the Region of Crete and OAK, which is also designated as the implementing entity.

The Director of the Organization, Mr. Fotis Kazazis, said: “Τhis development signifies the materialization of the recent commitment of all involved parties regarding the upgrade of the Motorway, with the inclusion of Heraklion-Aghios Nikolaos section. This study is expected to be completed by the Organization in 2017, which will allow the tender to be finally prepared and completed.
