State-of-the-art petroleum dock inaugurated in Piraeus Port

Admittedly, the constructions world of our country puts the bar increasingly higher and and proves its ability, specialization and high-quality manpower. One brilliant example is the completion of West Pier III at Ikonion, the section of the port where the containers are transported within its facilities. The project that started over 2.5 years ago has reached a completion level of over 90% and yesterday the section went partially operational.

Nevertheless, the construction project of Pier III can stand among the most impressive and exemplary port projects Greece and Europe has ever seen. The completion of the New Petroleum Products Dock at  Ikonion, which has been constructed by TEKAL contractor has been characterized as “an infrastructure project, which creates new standards regarding the way oil products  are handled in Greece”.

The total budget of the project exceeded 140mn euros. The new Dock is located on the southern front of Pier III and covers a total area of ​​more than 12,800 sq.m. and a total length of more than 400 m., featuring 3 loading stations currently serving 3 petroleum companies through its terminal.

The project’s design and construction have been developed according to the strictest US and European regulations (ASME, API, IEC) and NFPA standards, Greek regulations and local authorities’ specifications. A special emphasis has been given on the facilities environmental footprint and their compliance to the existing environmental regulations.

The piping and the mechanical equipment are in accordance with the ASME B31.3, ASME B16.5, API and ISO standards. These facilities are the only to handle virtually the plurality of petrochemical products such as: Unleaded Gasoline, Marine Gas Oil, Diesel, Fuel Oil, Mineral Oils and Chemicals.
