Two new contracts have been awarded for the Rail Baltica (RB) project, with four design procurement procedures remaining.
IDOM Consulting, Engineering, Architecture, which has already been selected for three design and design supervision contracts for the Rail Baltica project, has been awarded another for the Tallinn – Rapla section of the line. The contract is worth €11.3m.
The 48km high-speed section will, according to the preliminary design, include 32 viaducts and pedestrian crossing, including a Tallinn – Rapla highway viaduct over the railway, as well as four animal passages.
RB Rail, who is overseeing the project, has also signed a contract with the Besix Rere Group, a consortium between Besix (Belgium) and Rere Būve (Latvia), for the design and construction of the Riga Railway Bridge and Riga Central Passenger Station. The project also includes 2.6km of standard track, six level crossings, a 1km-long bridge over the Daugava River and a smaller bridge also crossing part of the river.
Rail Baltica is multi-national joint venture between Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to construct an 870km standard-gauge line, which includes 213km in Estonia, 265km in Latvia and 391km in Lithuania.
