ERGOSE has begun studies to electrify the strategic Thessaloniki-Promachonas railway line. As it is mentioned, in a reply letter from OSE and ERGOSE, to a relevant question from the Parliament, we are at the final stage of selecting a contractor for the project studies concerning the sections of Kastanousa-Rodopoli line, Mandraki-Neo Petritsi,  Strymonas-Promachonas as well as the upgrade of a 2.5-km line after Mouries Railway Station.

The document also clarifies that the study requires 23 months to complete, after which, the tender period and the actual construction of the project will follow, that include the installation of a single-track, electrified line from Thessaloniki to Promahonas.

This means that the tender will take place by the end of 2019, at best, and the project will start probably in 2020, if everything goes as planned. The cost is estimated at 110mn euros and has secured funding by NSRF 2014-2020. The study is funded by “Connecting Europe”, EU’s  funding tool .

Additionally, the document contains references  and updates regarding other prospective railway projects; i.e.  railway line design studies that have already been carried out and finalized regarding the sections: Strymonas-Serres, Drama-Paranesti-Stavroupoli, for both of which, funding sources are still sought.
