A plan by the Ministry of Transport, in order for the construction of new modern buses for urban transport to proceed, was announced during the 12th Regional Conference for the Productive Reconstruction, held in Thessaloniki, by the Minister, Mr. Christos Spirtzis.

“The answer to the question if we can obtain new buses, is yes, but we can do so  away from the practices of the past. We will not get a loan to buy new buses from foreign automakers and then pay 2 and 3 times up the prices for spare parts, making it impossible for us to provide serious and reliable urban transportation systems in the coming years”, the Minister noted.

He also added that the Ministry is already preparing 2 PPPs: one concerning the construction of new modern technology buses at ELVO factory and a second for electric buses that will be manufactured and maintained in Athens. “The country’s supplies and needs must be linked to the productive structure of the country”, Mr. Spirtzis said.
