Plans regarding the connection of the industrial area of Aghioi Theodoroi (concerning mainly the refineries of Motor Oil) to the national railway network is proceeding fast. According to ypodomes.com, yesterday, Mr. Gregoris Sambatakakis, General Network Manager of OSE, topographic studies, environmental studies (which have not yet been approved), have already begun, while studies for the design, signaling and structural adequacy of the project will follow soon. As the GM noted, “it is a useful project, not only for Motor Oil but for the entire industrial area of Aghioi Theodoroi.”
The auction, that will be carried out by Motor Oil in 2019, provides for a 10 km railway connection from Aghioi Theodoroi to Isthmos (where it will be connected to the national network). The cost of the project is estimated at 12m euros, funded by Motor Oil. Extra funds will be sought from NSRF.
The basic belief is that it is feasible for the project to be completed in 1.5 years after the launch of the construction phase, i.e. roughly towards the end of 2020. The line will be single-track, electrified while below it, there are plans for the development of underground quadruple pipelines for the transportation of the fuel in an environmentally friendly way (and not by tankers) and two other fiber optic conduits, one serving the industrial area and the other for the needs of the Greek State.
