GAIAOSE is preparing, following the development plans for a new shopping center in Piraeus (see relevant report), almost simultaneously, the construction of a new mall in Thessaloniki’s Central Railway Station. According to safe information, Town Planning and Environmental Impact Studies are already in progress.

The building will be built above the passengers’ station, alongside the docks in an area of approximately 100,000 sq.m. It will be one of the largest shopping centers in the city, just 1.5 km away from Aristotelous Square. The investment is estimated to reach 100mio euros, making it the most important private infrastructure project (and building-related project) Thessaloniki has seen in years.

As Mr. Shizas said, the investment will be large and will involve the development of multipurpose commercial spaces. A crucial element is the creation of a parking space with a capacity of 800 vehicles, in an area having a desperate need for one. This week, the whole project will be a subject of consultation among the stakeholders, in order for the necessary consensus to be formed.

The creation of the new mall is estimated to bring more than 1,500 jobs and will create green spaces on the side and the back of the building facilities. The completion of the Town Planning study is expected to be completed in the second half of 2018 allowing the concession tender to be launched. The concession period is currently estimated at about 30 years.

The project’s construction phase is expected to last 2 years. If construction works begin in 2019, then in 2021, along with the operation of the new Metro Station in the area, a completely transformed Central Railway Station will open its gates.
