Peloponnese: Kalo Nero-Tsakona road project to be signed soon

The important road project for the upgrade of road safety on Pyrgos-Kalo Nero axis is going to be signed sooner. According to a decision of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, which is also the Contracting Authority, the temporary contractor of the project is ODOS ATE with a discount of 46.53%. This is a interregional project. which includes works in both the Prefecture of Ilia and with a length of 54 km, with works extending from Ilia to Messinia Prefectures, concerning the improvement of the characteristics on the existing section.

The initial cost of the project reached 19.8m euros (incl. VAT, VAT excl. 15.96m euros). The tender for the project was held on September 12 and the opening of the bids took place on September 18, 2019.

The duration of the contract is 730 days, i.e. 2 years. With rough calculations, if the works start in the summer, then they will be completed in the middle of 2021 (without taking into account any delays in the construction period).

The financing of the project will be covered by the NSRF 2014-2020 and more specifically by the O.P. YMEPERAA. It is reminded that Pyrgos-Kalo Nero axis was part of Olympia Odos until 2013.

At that time, in the famous ‘restart’, the whole section from Patras to Tsakona had been excluded by the scope of the project. This section also includes Caiaphas area, which has been designated as Natura.
