EUROPE: Passenger services are to be reinstated on two branch lines in Slovakia this summer, mostly targeting leisure traffic.
Polish regional operator PolRegio has received approval for the use of SA135 and SA134 diesel multiple-units on cross-border services to Medzilaborce in Slovakia. Between July 1 and September 3 there will be weekend-only trains from Rzeszów and Sanok to Medzilaborce, using the 15·6 km cross-border Line 191 between Łupków and Medzilaborce where passenger services ceased in May 2011.
Separately, Slovak national railway ZSSK is to reinstate passenger services on the 30 km Line 112 between Zohor and Plavecké Pohradie after a gap of 14 years, with two pairs of weekend-only trains operating from April 29 to October 1. These will be operated as extensions of existing services on the Záhorská Ves–Zohor line, and are to be integrated into the Bratislava urban transport system, co-funded from the regional budget.
