Developments are expected in September regarding the construction of Patra-Pyrgos Motorway. As it is known, since mid-July, a solution is being sought for the construction of the upgraded road axis.

What seems to be winning ground as an option is for the new motorway section to be constructed by Olympia Motorway. This emerges as the strongest scenario to date and seems to attract more and more supporters. After all, the new motorway section was originally part of Olympia Motorway’s concession agreement until 2011, when the construction stopped and in 2013 it was decided to be separated by the revised project scope.

According to secure information of ypodomes.com this will also be the dominant topic of discussion in Brussels with the relevant Departments. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is awaiting the “green light” by the European Commission and, if this is the case, then we will have important developments quite soon. Additionally, this will also be the first major “crash test” for extension projects on the other motorway axes too.

Olympia Motorway to reach ancient Olympia

Reportedly, if this scenario is verified, then we will have a “bonus” section with the motorway not ending at Pyrgos town but at Ancient Olympia, justifying its name as “Olympia Motorway”.

The key point, if Olympia Motorway construction scenario finally proceeds, are the negotiations with the current contractors and the compensations. However, works on two out of five contracts are being carried out today.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport argues that under the current planning, projects will not be completed in time(i.e. by the end of 2023), which is the final deadline for NSRF-funded projects.
