We had a reversal in the tender for the extension of the Tram depot to Elliniko. According to information, after the verification of the supporting documents, the initial bidder Construction Team was excluded (it had given a percentage of 43.01%) as it did not meet the criteria of the announcement.

As is done in these cases, the tender committee went to the next bidder which is the TERNA-THEMELI consortium with a percentage of 17.20% which becomes the temporary contractor of the project.

A total of 4 teams had submitted bids (third was AVAX with 11% and fourth was INTRACAT with 9.1%.) Now with the new data and if we have no other appeals, the minutes of the tender will be completed and then the contract will go to approval at the Court of Auditors, will be presented to Parliament and then signed.

Necessary Project

The competition was held on March 1 and 2, 2021 after three postponements. The extensions were given following relevant requests from interested parties to participate in schemes.

This is a necessary project that will increase the capacity of the depot to be able to park the 25 new Alstom Trams that have already begun to arrive. The contracting authority of the project is Attiko Metro.

The value of the project was estimated at 18.2 million euros (amount with VAT, amount without VAT: 14.75 million euros). The initial auction was scheduled for November 18, 2020.

The duration of the project was estimated at 790 days (just over 26 months) from the day of signing the contract. Once the projects start in the Spring, the expansion will be completed by mid-2022.

The project has been included in the Act “Western extension of the tram in Piraeus – Phase B”, which is co-financed by the EU. in the context of the P.E.P. “Attiki” of ESPA 2014 – 2020 (numbered project PDE: 2016EP08510130).

Identity of the Project

The object of the project includes all the required studies and works of civil engineering projects, as well as electromechanical and railway systems, which concern:

– the construction of a new metal building / shelter, open perimeter, measuring approximately 70 mx 43 m, in a new area of about 5 acres, adjacent to the existing tram depot, which will serve the storage of 22 new tram vehicles on 11 parallel new tracks, in ballast and in concrete, with a working length of 2 vehicles each.

The new tracks will be connected to the existing tracks of the depot, through new rail junctions / changes at their ends, while the overhead conductor 750 V DC will be extended accordingly, to ensure the smooth movement of the trains on the new tracks.

Between the tracks, under the canopy, the required low platforms will be constructed, which will be used as access for cleaning vehicles. Due to the expansion of the depot and the management of the increased fleet of tram vehicles, it will be necessary to expand and upgrade some electromechanical and railway systems in the existing depot,

– additional works within the existing workshop building, for the creation of 2 new trenches of visit – repairs and coverage of the operational needs, resulting from the expansion of the depot and the supply of new trains.
