Isthmos – Loutraki railway line upgrade project on its way to the Court of Audit

The tender regarding the normalization and electrification of the single-track railway line from Isthmos to Loutraki is now under completion. A few days ago, ERGOSEdefinitely accepted J/V Mytileneos-Xanthakis as the underbidder. It is reminded that AKTOR had previously appealed against this decision of the tender, without result.

The tender took place in March 2018, when the winning J/V offered a discount of 47.82%. The contract will now be sent for approval to the Court of Audit and then signed. The cost of the projects is set at 14.8m euros (incl. VAT, VAT excl. 12m euros).

The project is funded by the Public Investments Program. The duration of the construction workss has been estimated at 18 months and, if the contract is finally signed in the Summer, then the line should be able to reopen in the summer of 2021 (a short trial operation will also be needed).

The rail link between Piraeus, Athens and Loutraki stopped in 2007, following the operation of the new Athens-Korinthos-Kiato new railway axis as well as the suspension of train services on Athens-Corinth-Patras line. 

The upgrade of Isthmos-Loutraki section also concerns its connection to the existing high speed railway line, operating between Kiato-Corinth and the Airport. The project for the reinstatement of the line will be carried out with modern standards, meeting all European safety and interoperability requirements.
