Greek railway: two new tenders for rail projects in Athens and Western Greece

Two more tenders will be issued by ERGOSE in the next two months, in the context of the promotion of rail transport. This is the project of the 2nd phase of the Central Railway Station of Athens but also a major project of the completion of the new double line Aigio-Rio.

According to information from ypodomes.com, in the coming days, the green light is expected from the Managing Authority of the OP. YME-PERAA of the NSRF for the project of the 2nd phase of the Central Station of Athens. Then the Board will decide on the auction of the project and it will be announced.

According to the same sources, in January the project will have gone on the air with the auction being placed next March. The project concerns the modernization of three more docks with the parallel installation of power lines, new superstructure and modern functions (elevators, escalators, etc.).

The project also includes the famous underground connection of the Central Station with the adjacent Metro station “Larissa Station” as well as E / M facilities within the station. The cost of the project reaches 50 million euros.

Aigio-Rio

This is the most important project of the current period. It concerns the completion of the new double line from Aigio to Rio. The large contract, which costs more than 120 million euros, is in the final stage of maturation and in the coming days ERGOSE will send the tender documents to the Managing Authority for approval. If there are no significant comments, then the project will be able to be announced in March.

In the Aigio-Rio section, today two contracts are being executed in parallel with the object of creating infrastructure. This contract will include: the bonus (lines), signaling, electrification, ETCS and the new stations and stops Rododafni, Selianitika, Kamares, Psathopyrgos, Arachovitika, Ag. Basil, Rio and Bozaitika.

The projects are expected to attract the interest of the construction industry, which is seeing new railway projects after a long time. These two new projects are to be added to two other ERGOSE projects.

In February the offers for two projects

In February, the bids for the first two major projects -announced by the railway construction company- will be opened. The first concerns the electrification of the single line Larissa-Volos, with a total cost of 82.89 million euros. The auction will take place on February 1 while the bids will open on the 5th of the month.

A few days later, on February 11, the signaling project of the Thessaloniki-Eidomeni line will be auctioned, while on the 18th of the same month, the bids will be opened to reveal the bidder. This project has a total cost of 56.7 million euros.

Finally, the completion of the tender for the electric drive in Kiato-Rododafni is expected, which will complete the modernization of this section, which reopened last July after 9 years.

These projects are part of the overall planning for the modernization of the Greek railway network. The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Costas Karamanlis, has bid in favor of the railway projects and in recent statements he emphasizes that the time has come to promote the railway and the projects that will make it competitive.
