The first phase of the preselection for the new Athens Metro Line 4, will be completed within the next few days. As the Managing Director of Attiko Metro, Mr. Theodoros Papadopoulos, said, some clarifying questions have been submitted by the participants, and, soon enough, it will be announced who will make it to the next stage.
Probablly, all 4 schemes will contend with each other in the next phase (it has been stated that there is no reason to disqualify any, at the current stage), which is the filing of the technical offers, which is expected to be the most protracted due to the volume of each offer.
As the Chairman of Attiko Metro said, “the goal is for the contractor to be assigned by the end of 2018, however, without counting in any legal disputes that may come up” (which is almost certain for a project with this budget).
For the time being, precursory works, worth 40mio euros will be carried out; i.e. archaeological surveys, and temporary rearrangements for the affected utility networks.
Regarding the value of Athens’ Metro Line 4, Infrastructure Minister, Mr. Christos Spirtzis answered to the question of Ypodomes.com saying the following: “I believe that Line 4 is one of the projects that completes -along with other extensions that will be implemented– Metro network in the Region of Attica.
Our concern is to find the resources, not just for the first phase of Line 4, but also for the second phase, the extensions in the Western Suburbs of Athens, as well as the extensions to be made in Thessaloniki Metro, towards the Western Districts and the Airport “.
