Planning approval has been granted for a €222m project to electrify the Ulm-Friedrichshafen-Lindau line in southern Germany. Work on the first section between Ulm and Laupheim West will begin in 2018.

The project involves around 125-km route, most of which is double track while the 25km Lindau-Friedrichshafen section is single track. The work is likely to involve lengthy line closures as is currently happening on sections of the Munich-Lindau main line which is also being electrified. The first closure will take place from September 10 to December 21 next year between Ulm and Laupheim. The project is due to be completed in 2021.
