Construction works concerning the first stage of Faliro Bay restoration are under completion. After the completion of Poseidonos Avenue roadworks and the branches to other directions, Tramway relocation workss are coming next.

According to ypodomes.com information, the new date that has been given by Attica Region authorities for the start of this project is February 17th and is expected to last about 4 months.

The progress so far

Attica Region has already given an extension to the contractor, AKTOR, for March 15, 2020, but this will not be enough to complete all the necessary works. An additional extension is expected that will lead to the project’s completion in the Summer, unless there are further delays.

It is noted that, in addition to the original contract with a budget of 52.9m euros, two more contracts have been signed; the first for 5m euros and the second for 18m euros. Financing of the project comes from the Region’s own resources.

With the completion of the works, the area will be flood-proofed, will obtain a new motorway with two highly complex intersections, to the south (i.e. Syngrou Ave. and Poseidonos Ave.) and to the north (M. Asias Ave., Kifisos Ave., old Poseidonos Ave., etc.).

But this will not be the end of works for this major urban regeneration project. The next step will be the auctioning of Phase B projects -at a cost of approximately 110m euros-, that concern the creation of a large coastal park that will be linked to the adjacent park, Flisvos Marina and Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. Phase B is estimated to last about 30 months.
