The long-awaited tender for the electrification of Larissa-Volos railway section is taking a step forward. According to information of ypodomes.com, next week, tender documents will be sent to the Management Authority of NSRF 2014-2020, for the O.P. YMEPERAA.

The goal is for the project to be auctioned within the summer and to become the first of the projects promoted by ERGOSE under the management of Mr. Christos Vinis. The last pending issues are almost completed; one of them was a teleconference with ETVA VIPE for the concession of a part of the land the company owns in Volos, for the crossing of the railway line.

The project

The project concerns the installation of signaling, electrification and ETCS systems on the existing single-track railway line Larissa-Volos, approximately 61 km long. The new design also includes the normalization of the old metric line on Latomio-Volos section. The line will be included in the existing Remote Management Center of Thessaloniki.

The tender will be carried out by ERGOSE with the cost of the project being 92.3m euros (incl. VAT). The deadline for the completion of the project has been set for December 31, 2023.

Other projects to come

Another project that is in the preparation process for its auction is the completion of Thessaloniki-Eidomeni railway line upgrade, which includes systems, telecommunications, etc. Its cost is about 70m euros and it is estimated that it will be auctioned in 2020.

The third project that will follow is the ‘sweep-contract’ for the upgrade of Athens Central Railway Station, a project worth about 50m euros that is also estimated to be to be auctioned within the year.
