Crete: Hill International declared as Independent Engineer for Kasteli International Airport project

After a tough battle among 3 companies submitting very close offers, eventually the title of the Independent Engineer for Kasteli International Airport, seems to be won by Hill International. According to secure information provided at Ypodomes.com, the American company that has signed important contracts over the recent years, has been declared as the temporary underbidder for the project. During the next period, all relevant documents will be scrutinized in order for the final contractor to be finalized. It is reminded that the 4 joint ventures that claim the contract are:

1. OBERMEYER PLANEN + BERATEN GmbH – YOOSHIN ENGINEERING CORPORATION

2. HILL INTERNATIONAL N.V. – HILL INTERNATIONAL ENGINEERING CONSULTANCY LLC

3. AECOM LIMITED – AECOM INFRASTRUCTURE & ENVIRONMENT UK LIMITED”

4. SOCIETÀ PER AZZIONI ESERCIZI AEROPORTUALI S.E.A. – PROINTEC S.A.U.

At this phase, the concession project for the construction of the New International Airport in Kasteli, Crete is the most advanced to start and will be the first “new generation” project that will finally begin, probably sometime in early Autumn of the TERNA-GMR consortium, which will also take over its fortunes for the next 4 decades.

Now, according to other sources, the aim is for the contract to be sent at the Court of Auditors before Summer and the project to be signed by September (after passing, of course, the Greek Parliament for ratification). As everything shows, the construction stage is expected to start in late 2018, peaking up in 2019.

The new airport, at a cost of around 500mln euros, will be one of the most cutting edge projects of the next 5 years, along with the projects for Salamina Underwater Tunnel, Crete’s Northern Motorway Axis, Athens Metro Line 4, Patra-Pyrgos Motorway and the completion of E65 Motorway in Central Greece.
