The grand finale is approaching for the motorway projects that started more than a decade ago. Olympia Motorway is expected to conclude the entirety of its pending issues pretty soon; an indication of the expedited nature of these arrangements is the assignment of the last major outstanding works at Derveni, directly to the concessionaire.

Works at Rio super-interchange are also under completion and the road section is scheduled to become fully operational by the end of the month (i.e. next Friday).

Ionian Motorway, is considered to be completed with the official ribbon-cutting ceremony anticipated in the early days of September (and certainly before Thessaloniki’s International Fair), highlighting the strategic importance of the new axis for Western Greece and Epirus regions.

E65 Motorway is the only project that is in the queue to be delivered. Despite last April’s leaks regarding the release of Anavra-Trikala section, the Ministry of Infrastructure preferred to postpone the inauguration of the motorway for September in order to release 100% of its current length.

The completion of these major projects, signifies the end of a long and protracted period of constructions that opens great opportunities for neighbouring regions, road transport and the Greek economy in general.

On the other hand, this also means the loss of some thousand jobs, the regeneration of which will require the implementation of new projects, that are expected to be much smaller in scope size, compared to the ones that are over.
