Contract for the electrification of Kiato – Rododafni to be sent to the Court of Audit

The tender regarding the electrification of  Kiato-Rododafni section is proceeding and, according to information of ypodomes.com, in the coming period, the contract will be sent to the Court of Audit.

The competition concerns the major electrification project of the double-track railway line in Kiato-Rododafni (Eghio) section, which essentially completes the upgrade of the new high-speed railway axis with a length of 71 km. Now the next moves include the contract’s approval by the Court of Audit and its ratification by the Greek Parliament allowing its final signing, probably by the end of the year.

AKTOR is the underbidder with a discount of 53.83%. Upon the completion of the project, modern, electric trains will be able to use the upgraded inftrastructure, developing speeds up to 200 km/h. Its cost is 83.08m euros (incl. VAT, excl. VAT 67m euros). The duration of the contract is set at 30 months (without the right of extension), which means that if the project is signed and starts in 2018, it will be completed in 2021. The project also provideds for a period of a 36-month maintenance period, after the end of construction phase.

With this project the train will have reached about 35 km outside the city of Patra. It is noted that another contract is expected soon for superstructure works, electrification works and signaling systems’ installation on the section from Rododafni to Psathopirgos which, as it has been announced, will be auctioned in the third quarter of 2019. A third contract for the superstructure work, electrification works, signaling systems and stations’ construction is also expected for Psathopyrgos-Rio section.

Project owner is ERGOSE. The project is funded by the Cohesion Fund, in the framework of the Operational Program “Transport Infrastructure, Environment and Sustainable Development” 2014-2020. The project, administratively, belongs to the regions of Peloponnese and Western Greece. ERGOSE has annually allocated funds required for the project’s implementation as follows: 2018: 6.200.000, 2019: 31.000.000, 2020: 38.440.000 and 2021: 7.440.000 euros.
