Mytilineos has been declared as the definite contractor for Thriassion Freight Centerm construction project. Although the company’s participation had leaked long ago, a formal decision from GAIAOSE, dated November 19, authorized the replacement of the initially involved company ARCHIKON with Mytilineos, fully confirming previous report of ypodomes.com.

Regarding the developments for the project’s initiation, an approval is being awaited by DG Comp, European Commission’s Competition Authority, expected in the beginning of 2019. Another interesting change is that the construction period has been shrunk from the initial 10 years (for two construction phases) to just 6 years. The first phase which concerns half of the investment (approximately 60m euros) has a 2-year deadline, during which 120,000 sq.m. of buildings will be developed.

The second phase will be completed with an additional 120,000 sq.m. It is noted that if the interest proves to be bigger than expected, it is quite likely that the construction time will shrink even further.

In total, the project’s scope will require investments of approximately 130m euros for the construction of infrastructure (sewage networks, internal road network, parking areas etc.) and the construction of buildings (warehouses, administration buildings). A double-track railway line linking Thriassion Freight Center with the existing railway infrastructure in the adjacent property, is also included in the project’s scope.

The launch of the projects will also mark the start of the concession agreement for the first Freight Center of the country, in Thriassion Plain, between GAIAOSE and the J/V ETBA-VIPE-Goldair.

This will be the most important building construction project in Attica that will give a significant boost to the technical sector. Hundreds of jobs will be created during the construction phase, while about 3,000 new positions are expected with the operation of the Freight Center.

With the signing of the contract and the initiation of the construction period, a one-off payment of 10m euros will be made to GAIAOSE.
