Waiting is over for the auctioning of the country’s largest port-related project which is the expansion of Piraeus’ passenger port in the South Zone, Phase A’. Implementing entity is Piraeus Port Authority SA (PPA SA).

This project concerns the expansion of the passenger port, allowing cruise ships’ additional docking spaces. With the completion of the project, the Port of Piraeus will be able to accept the largest cruise ships in the world and could finally become a home port. More particularly, it will be able to serve 4 new-generation cruise ships with a length of over 400 meters each.

The cost of the project is 168.99mln euros (VAT incl., VAT excl. 136,28mln euros). The auction is scheduled for August 31, 2018, while the opening of the bids will take place towards the end of September. The target is to for the project to have a contractor in October.

The duration of the project was set at 1,019 days (over 34 months) and if the contract is signed until Spring 2019, then it could be completed by early 2022.

The project is funded by NSRF 2014-2020 and more specifically by Attica region’s O.P., in which it is the largest co-funded project. At the same time, the commitment of PPA’s Chinese administration for the investment of more than 300mln euros is being fullfilled, as this project accounts for 50% of the total investment plan for the five-year period 2017-2022.
