The first postponement of the important tender regarding the precursory works for the large extension of Thessaloniki Metro towards the western suburbs has been confirmed. More specifically, the bids will take place on August 29 (original date was for July 29) and the opening of the offers will follow one day later, on August 30 (originally, on July 30).
This project includes all the necessary studies, archaeological works, exploratory works for the shifting of public utility networks, traffic bypasses, etc., required for the 11-km-long extension of the Metro to the northwest with 9 new stations.
The cost of the project amounts to 18.6m eurros (incl. VAT, excl. VAT: 15m) and it duration is estimated to be 24 months after the contract is signed. With rough estimates if the project starts next summer it should be completed (with no further delays) by mid-2022.
The financing of the project will come from the Public Investment Program (PDE) and Attiko Metro S.A. It is noteworthy that it concerns the first major auction for the network extension since 2012 when Kalamaria Branch of Thessaloniki Metro was auctioned.
It is also reminded that there is an additional tender underway regarding the topographic surveys for the eastern extension of Kalamaria Branch to Makedonia Airport.
