As of tomorrow January 29th, the very last section of the new double-track, high-speed railway line between Athens and Thessaloniki will be released to commercial operation. Angies-Domokos section will also connect the northern and the southern completed parts of the line, finally forming a double-track railway corridor.

As noted in a press release by ERGOSE, published earlier today, according to a facebook post by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Thanos Vourdas, Lianokladi – Domokos line will be operating with diesel trains for one month in order for electrification and line signaling systems to be tested.

Tomorrow, at 13.00, there will be a special service betweeen Lianokladi and Domokos, for the inspection of the new section. Secretary General of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, as well as the administrations of Railway Operators will also be on-board.

It is reminded that in the last section delivered tomorrow, in the area of ​​Ekkara Domokou, the new arched, metallic and earthquake resistant Railway Bridge 26 is located, which is an important technical achievement whose construction was carried out in the last 3 years. Until the end of February 2019, the entirety of Lianokladi-Domokos section will be electrified.

With the completion of these works, ERGOSE will conclude the major emblematic project for the construction of the new railway line on the county’s main railway axis: Piraeus-Athens-Thessaloniki, upgraded into a modern, fully interoperable, double-track electrified line.
