The project of Athens Metro Line 4 is being discussed a lot lately as the time for the tender of the line’s first section approaches. Nevertheless, Attiko Metro, is proceeding the project plans regarding the implementation of the Line 4’s future extensions.

As we speak, the project’s 3 next milestones, that will create a 30-km-long line with 33 stations, are under consideration. When completed, Line 4 will be starting from Perissos Station (Line 1) and will be terminating on Athens-Thessaloniki Motorway, in the area of Lykovrisi while there is also a provision for a branch starting from Evangelismos Station (Line 3) to Ano Ilioupoli to the Southeast. The overall budget for the line is estimated at 3.3bn euros from which 1.4bn euros concern the first, “mature” section, which is set for bids soon.

Metro Line 4’s future projects

After the arrangements for the line’s first section, another three tenders will follow over the next years. The next tender for the line’s future development would be with regard to its northern section (Goudi-Marousi-Athens-Thessaloniki Motorway) with 11 new stations and a length of 15 km. The one after that would be for the completion of the line’s western section and its connection with Line 1 at Perissos Station (2 km and 2 stations). The last tender would conclude the line’s extensions with the branch to Ano Ilioupoli (4 km and 3 new stations), a branch that could, quite possibly, be the beginning of a brand-new line in the future.

All three extension projects though are currently frozen as they lack the necessary funding, especially in the framework of NSRF 2014-2020 where, the line’s first section (Veikou Grove-Goudi) has already absorbed significant resources.
