The construction phase for the Academy Gardens Shopping Center project in the Plato’s Academy Athens is one step closer. Just a few days ago, the second Presidential Decree was published and the countdown for the issue of the building permit has now begun.

Based on the experience so far, the permit is expected to be published by the end of Autumn, allowing the construction of the new building complex in the area of the former Mouzakis Textile Mills on Kifissos Avenue.

According to safe information, the relevant competition is already being prepared . Many contenders are expected to “fight” over project, worth 180mln euros, in order to secure the “golden” contract. Besides, similar projects of that scale are very few in the Greek market at the moment, making it even more important for the construction sector.

The total budget of the investment is estimated at 300mln euros while the owner of the venture is Artume. During the construction, 2,000 peopple are expected to be employed while during the operation phase, approximately 1,600 jobs will be created. The new facilities are planned to open their gates for the public in 2020.

The building facilities to be constructed, will follow LEED PLATINUM specifications, exactly as in the case of Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center.

The duration of the construction stage is 2 years. The area of the property is 22,550 sq.m., while approximately 55,000 sq.m. will be constructed in total. Academy Gardens will include stores and entertainment spaces, cinemas and an underground car park with a capacity of 1,750 cars.

The project also includes compensatory interventions for the wider area such as green spaces, pedestrianized roads, bicycle paths, etc.
