Athens: A breathtaking city-break destination

After their first, and very successful, partnership that contributed to last year’s new record of foreign visitors’ arrivals to the capital, the City of Athens, Aegean Airlines and Athens International Airport once again joined forces for a joint campaign to promote Athens as an ideal city-break destination for the whole year.

The campaign was presented by the Mayor of Athens, Mr. George Kaminis, the Vice President of Aegean Airlines, Mr. Eftichios Vassilakis and the CEO of Athens International Airport, Mr. Yannis Paraschis at the biggest tourist exhibition in the world, ITB in Berlin, with a presence of more than 50 representatives of international and German media.

Using Athens Tourism Partnership as a vehicle, with the central message “Together for Athens’, the Municipality of Athens took, 2 years ago, the initiative to bring together leading players in tourism in an unprecedented partnership between a public authority and private operators, in order to promote the authentic experience of Athens while establishing it gradually as a top city-break destination in Southern Europe.

Indeed, in the coming years, Athens Tourism Partnership is expected to be reinforced with the participation of powerful institutions and companies related to the touristic development of the city.

During his presentation, the Mayor of Athens said: “It is central for our policy to join all healthy forces of our city, proceed to synergies and achieve the best for Athens. The partnership with Aegean and Athens International Airport is an excellent example of success. In 2017, Athens broke an all-time record of arrivals, surpassing the barrier of 5mio visitors.

It is noted that the second phase of the campaign, “One City. Never Ending Stories “, presented in Berlin, highlights the variety of options the city offers to its guests, inviting them to create their very own. With the title “Spring in Athens”, the campaign started on March 1st 2018, focusing mainly on the German market.

To promote the campaign, Athens Tourism Partnership, in co-operation with Marketing Greece, which has a coordinating role, utilizes digital media and social networks, thus harnessing the latest communication and marketing tools to reach out to the targeted audiences.
