The tender for the procurement of 25 new Trams for Athens’ Tramway network is proceeding. According to high-rank officials of Attiko Metro, yesterday important decisions were made for the continuation of the process; among 3 participating companies in the first place, the Czech, Skoda and the Korean, Hyundai Rotem were disqualified from the next phase leaving the French, Alstom the sole contender for the project.

Nevertheless, we can still cannot say if the  French company will finally secure the contract, since all other participants have appealed to the Council of State, against the participation of each other’s rivals.

“We will implement the judgement of the CoS” the same sources underlined at Ypodomes.com. “Our goal is to run the process and complete the tender” Unless the aforementioned decision is changed, Attiko Metro will proceed with the unsealoing of Alstom’s financial offer and if it is deemed advantageous, it will award the contract thus concluding a 4-year long, adventure”.

It is reminded that this is the second tender, since the first one, which was held in 2013, was finally cancelled, with the participants’ legal disputes being incessant.

The 25 new Trams are necessary for the smooth operation of the network that will be extended by 5.4 km, reaching the center and the Port of Piraeus in 2018. The budget initially set for the procurement by Attiko Metro was 64.5mn euros. Once the contest is completed, by the beginning of 2018, the first Trams arrive in the capital in mid-2019.
