Alstom has agreed to purchase onboard Wi-Fi and infotainment specialist 21net, Belgium, from the Innovacom fund and other investors for an undisclosed sum. The sale will be completed within one month. 21net was founded in 2001 and generated a turnover of €16m in 2017. The company has subsidiaries in France, Italy and India and employs 50 people.

It won a contract from French National Railways (SNCF) in 2016 together with Engie Ineo to equip SNCF’s entire TGV fleet of 2400 coaches with high-speed internet by the end of 2017. 21net has already worked with Alstom on the installation of Wi-Fi and infotainment on Italo-NTV high-speed train fleet in Italy.

“This new acquisition, one year after that of Nomad Digital, will reinforce Alstom’s digital offering and expertise,” says Mr Jean-François Beaudoin, Alstom’s senior vice-president for digital mobility. “The demand for seamless connectivity throughout passengers’ journey is today a must.”
