A tough battle was fought a while ago, for the project regarding the electrification of the new double-track railway line Kiato-Rododafni (Eghio), which will essentially complete the upgrade of the new, 71 km long, high-speed line.
Financial offers were opened in ERGOSE’s headquarters and AKTOR prevailed with a 53.83% discount. It is noted that, from last week, five consortia in otal participated in the tender: AKTOR, ALSTOM-RAILWAY PROJECTS J/V, TERNA, MYTILINEOS-ELECNOR J/V and INTRAKAT-ALPIQ ENTERTRANS J/V. Upon the completion of these projects, modern electric trains will be able to use the new double-track lines, at speeds reaching 200 km/h.
The cost of the project is 83.08mio euros (VAT incl., 67mio euros excl. VAT). The duration of the contract is 30 months (without the right of extension), which means that, if the project is signed and start in 2018, it should be completed in 2021. The contract also provides for a 36-month maintenance period, after the end of the construction phase.
By then, the train will have reached just 35 km outside Patras, the capital and biggest Port of Western Greece region. It is noted that another contract is expected for the superstructure, electrification and installation of signaling systems for Rododafni-Psathopyrgos section, as it was announced yesterday by the Minister of Infrastructure. Relevant tender will be launched in Q3 2018. A third contract for the superstructure, electrification, installation of signaling systems and the construction of new stations in Psathopyrgos-Rio section is expected in 2019.
Implementing entity of the above-mentioned projects is ERGOSE. Kiato-Rododafni electrification project, which concerns a section located in both Peloponnese and Western Greece’s administrative boundaries, is funded by the EU. ERGOSE budget will be distributed as follows: 2018: 6.2mio euros, 2019: 31mio euros, 2020: 38.44mio euros, 2021: 7.44mio euros.
