Council of State gave the “green light” for the construction of Academy Gardens, a shopping mall, on a surface of 22,000 sq.m., in the area of Plato’s Academy in Athens, within the facilities of the former textile factory of Mouzakis (60, Kifissos Avenue, Irous and Akragantos).
Council of State’s verdict means the approval for the development of multi-storey facilities providing commercial and entertainment services.
What remains to be done is the signature of Environment and Energy Minister, Mr. Yorgos Stathakis. The first construction works for the 150mln-euro investment that promise to change the degraded area of Plato’s Academy for the better, are expected to start during this year.
The building facilities to be constructed, will follow LEED PLATINUM specifications, exactly as in the case of Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center.
The duration of the construction stage is 2 years. The area of the property is 22,550 sq.m., while approximately 55,000 sq.m. will be constructed in total. Academy Gardens will include stores and entertainment spaces, cinemas and an underground car park with a capacity of 1,750 cars.
The project also includes compensatory interventions for the wider area such as green spaces, pedestrianized roads, bicycle paths, etc.
