The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Kostas Karamanlis visited earlier today the construction site of Piraeus Metro Station, which is part of the extension of Line 3.

In statements he made for reporters covering the visit, he noted that while the original schedule for the project’s completion was in 2021, this cannot be the case, estimating that the overall operation of Line 3 extension to Dimotiko Theatro Station, is expected in 2022.

Concerning the first 3 stations of the extension: Aghia Varvara, Korydallos and Nikea, he announced their completion in summer 2020. However, he stressed that there is the paradox of no provision for e-ticketing systems due to incompatibility issues.

Referring to the Tram and its extension to Piraeus, he said that while the trial runs are completed, construction works due to be launched soon in Faliro Bay in the beginning of the new year, will last from 4 to 6 months probably moving the extension’s operation for summer 2020.

Mr. Karamanlis said he is in direct communication with the authority of Attica Region for decisions that might speed up the operation of the new section.
