The mayor of Istanbul, Mr Ekrem Imamoğlu, announced on August 29 that the city will launch 24-hour services on selected metro and bus lines from the night of August 30.
24-hour services will operate on Fridays, Saturdays and religious and public holidays on eight bus routes and six metro lines:
– M1A Yenikapi -Atatürk Airport
– M1B Yenikapi -Kirazlı
– M2 Yenikapi -Haciosman
– M4 Kadiköy – Tavşantepe
– M5 Üsküdar – Çekmeköy, and
– M6 Levent – Boğaziçi University/Hisarüstü
Metro services will operate at 20-minute headways and fares will be charged at double the standard daytime rate.
“This city lives 24 hours a day,” Imamoğlu says. “We know well that there are many people who work late at night. We also know how hectic the city gets during night time.”
